Air Conditioning
GC Motor Group services and repairs air conditioning systems on most makes and models, working with both R134a and R1234yf refrigerant gases.
If your air conditioning isn’t blowing cold, smells musty when it’s switched on, or seems weaker than it used to be, the system likely needs a re-gas or a closer look at what’s causing the fault.
All air conditioning systems lose a small amount of refrigerant gas naturally over time, even without a specific fault, which is why performance gradually drops off if the system isn’t serviced. However, a larger or sudden drop in cooling is usually down to a leak somewhere in the system, whether that’s a hose, seal, or another component. Leaving a low system unserviced can also allow moisture to build up internally, which affects performance further and can damage other components over time.
Most vehicles use either R134a or the newer R1234yf refrigerant gas, and it’s important the correct one is used for your specific car as using the wrong gas type isn’t just a performance issue, it can damage the system and isn’t something any competent garage should do. We identify which gas your vehicle requires and carry out the work accordingly, so there’s no guesswork involved.
A typical service includes checking the system for leaks, removing any old or contaminated gas, and re-gassing with the correct refrigerant to the manufacturer’s specified level. We’ll also check the compressor and other key components while the system is open, since catching a developing fault early is usually far cheaper than waiting for it to fail completely.
Air conditioning work is carried out in our workshop in Norwich using the correct equipment for both R134a and R1234yf systems, so whatever your car needs, we can handle it properly. We explain what’s actually wrong before recommending a re-gas or repair, and back our work with twelve months’ labour cover. A courtesy car or our collection and delivery service is available if you’d rather not wait around while the work’s done.
This is usually down to low refrigerant gas, either from natural loss over time or a leak in the system. We can check the gas level and identify the cause.
Most systems benefit from a check every couple of years, since refrigerant naturally reduces over time even without a fault. We’ll advise based on how your system’s performing.
This is usually caused by bacteria or mould building up within the system, rather than a problem with the gas. A service usually fixes this.
This depends on the make, model and age of your vehicle. We identify the correct gas type before carrying out any work, so you don’t need to know this in advance.
The cost depends on the vehicle, the gas type required and whether any additional repairs are needed. Bring your car or van into our workshop and we can have a look and provide an accurate quote.
All work at GC Motor Group follows manufacturer service standards from start to finish, with original equipment parts used as standard, giving you the reassurance of dealer-level care, delivered by an independent garage you can trust.
